Succeeding modernism and postmodernism, the lens through which the world is viewed can now be characterised as metamodern. Metamodernism is described as an oscillation between the postmodern tendency of ironic deconstruction, and the modern naive construction of grand narratives. In this public lecture, Dave Vliegenthart (assistant professor of religious studies, Maastricht University) will outline these different outlooks on the world, or ”structures of feeling,” with particular attention to metamodernism. In the second part of the lecture, the floor is opened for a discussion on what metamodernism might hold for the study of theology and religious studies.
You are warmly invited to attend this public lecture and discuss with us what you think is the future of theology and religious studies in an age of metamodernism!
